Materials used in our marquees and other shelters

Our marquees, pop-up gazebos, storage shelters and other shelter solutions are made from materials selected according to their function in each product. Depending on the model, these may include steel or aluminium frames and covers made from PVC, PE or polyester.

The combination of materials varies between products. Always check the individual product description and technical specifications for information about the model you are considering.

PVC covers

Soft PVC is used for the covers of many of our marquees and storage shelters. The material is flexible and suitable for covers that are handled regularly and used outdoors. The thickness, weight and construction of the cover vary between product ranges.

When a soft PVC cover can no longer be used, take it to an appropriate waste collection facility and follow the applicable local instructions. Do not place soft PVC from tents or tarpaulins with ordinary household plastic recycling unless the local waste provider specifically confirms that it accepts this type of product.

The available treatment and disposal options vary between countries and local authorities. Contact your local authority or waste facility if you are unsure which waste category to use.

Polyethylene covers

PE, or polyethylene, is used for the covers of selected marquees, storage shelters and tarpaulins. It is a lightweight plastic material suitable for various temporary covering and shelter applications.

PE is not biodegradable. Certain types of clean and correctly sorted PE can be processed for material recycling, but this does not mean that every PE product will be accepted or recycled. Covers and tarpaulins may contain woven layers, seams, eyelets, fittings or other components that affect how the product can be processed.

When a PE cover can no longer be used, follow the local instructions for plastic products or bulky waste. Ask the local waste facility whether it accepts the cover for recycling and whether eyelets, cords or other materials must be removed before delivery.

Steel frames and components

Steel is used for many of our marquee, storage shelter and other shelter frames. The material provides the strength and stability required for the intended use of the individual product.

If a cover becomes damaged or worn while the frame remains in serviceable condition, a replacement cover or another spare part may allow continued use of the frame. Spare parts are available for selected Dancover products. Always check that the spare part is compatible with the relevant product before ordering.

When a steel frame or component can no longer be used, sort it according to local requirements. Steel parts can often be delivered as metal waste, but always follow the instructions provided by the local authority or waste facility. Remove covers, plastic fittings and other non-metal components if required by the receiving facility.

Polyester covers

Polyester is used for the covers of various Dancover products, including selected UNICO marquees and FleXtents® pop-up gazebos. Depending on the product, the polyester fabric may have a coating or backing that provides properties such as water resistance.

Coatings, seams, printing, fittings and combinations of materials can affect how a polyester cover must be handled after use. Follow the local waste-sorting instructions. Do not place the cover with textile or plastic waste unless the local waste provider confirms that this type of product belongs in the relevant waste category.

Aluminium frames and components

Aluminium is used for selected marquee, pop-up gazebo and garden gazebo frames. It combines a relatively low weight with the strength required for portable frames and other outdoor structures.

When aluminium components can no longer be used, they can often be delivered as metal waste. Separate the metal from covers, plastic fittings and other materials if required, and follow the instructions provided by the local waste facility.

Follow the local waste-sorting instructions

Waste collection and treatment can vary between countries, regions and local authorities. A material being technically capable of recycling does not guarantee that a specific product will be accepted or recycled locally.

Before disposing of a marquee, pop-up gazebo or another shelter, consider the following:

  • Check whether an intact frame or other components can continue to be used.
  • Find out whether compatible spare parts are available for the product.
  • Separate covers, frames and fittings if required.
  • Check which waste category applies to each material.
  • Contact the local authority or waste facility if you are unsure.
  • Follow the instructions provided by the facility receiving the product.

Correct sorting gives the waste operator the best possible basis for handling the individual materials through the processes available locally.
